Timberland Sponsors SAFER With New Work Boots

NEW ORLEANS, LA: January 7, 2008

Shoe and clothing manufacturer Timberland recently donated nine pairs of steel-toed work boots to Student Advocacy for Equitable Recovery (SAFER), a New Orleans-based non-profit group. Founded by two Tulane University students in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, SAFER coordinates student volunteers from around the country to rebuild New Orleans homes. SAFER is an officially recognized student organization at Tulane University, and operates from an office on the university campus. The non-profit’s staff of seven full-time volunteers has led over 1,200 individual volunteers in recovery efforts throughout New Orleans. SAFER volunteers have gutted over 90 houses and are currently rebuilding their fifteenth home. Timberland’s generous donation will help SAFER to accomplish its rebuilding goals more safely and efficiently.
